After first taking up photography and was bitten by “the bug”, over time, I have come to view it in terms of portraiture.
Whether the subject is landscape, flora, fauna or human action or still life, the purpose is to express the essence of the subject, which includes emotion and storytelling.
Elements can be added, arranged or emphasized to help convey a message. Learning the skills to use technology, techniques and the rules of composition are also essential in helping one’s ability to create the desired, and sometimes unindented, expression.
I believe this process is where the joy of creating is found in photography. Along with making human connections between the subject, photographer and the viewer is imperative and fulfilling.
Whether alone on a trek or with other photographers to capture images, sharing moments, ideas and techniques, to interacting with subjects (human or otherwise) brings connections, allowing for a deeper relationship to exist. Something we more than ever in the times we live in today.
If, as a photographer, I can invoke a reaction and connection with the viewer, who brings their own perspective, well I guess, that’s mission accomplished.
